The deliberate use of deceptive language by governments, corporations or renowned institutions are a direct threat to Democracy. A far greater danger than ditzy politicians who come and go like bad pastries. Suspect language stays in the system, in the minds of average citizens who do no bother to question what is heard or change what they see. Orwell warned us the first signs of a dictatorship is its invasion of language.

I am very impressed with the honesty and sense of balanced wisdom you present about language that packs such diverse meaning, depending on the context. I especially appreciate your take on FAKE NEWS, having studied journalism in the early 70s. I also appreciate that you provide authentic instances with each topic. In one word: refreshing. Keep up the good work. Mary Anna Scenga Kruch

It is wonderful how you change up the topics of discussion. I also despise the word "woke" and find it meaningless and absurd. Lately, I have seen it used in a sarcastic manner deriding those who consider themselves "woke." However, the word "synergy" can have a very positive connotation in the right context. You are right that words can be used to deceive and manipulate. Jana Begovic
